24 July, 2004 We arrived at Okie Pinokie this time at 8:00 a.m. We wanted to get a closer look at the area during the daylight. Possibly find the tree with thorns that we had heard so much about. Our nighttime attempts had not yielded any sign of the elusive tree. We walked the path from the turnaround towards the river below. From there we went to a higher trail (to the right when you are standing with your back to the river.) We noticed a lot of seemingly "burned" leaves high up in the trees along this path. Not all of the trees had these but, there were enough to make us notice them. Horse and deer hoof prints were all along the path. We continued to explore the paths, changing direction as we came upon new ones. Along the paths Curtis heard what sounded like grunting nearby but, saw nothing there. The sound can be clearly heard on the videotape we were shooting at the time. There was evidence along the river of people using the areas for fishing. In one of the areas we came upon several rocks of all sizes with graffiti on them. We finally did find the tree with the thorns growing out of it and the twisted burned out stump. We followed this path until it led us back to the turnaround. We now know which path to take when we come out here at night.

As far as we could tell this is the only tree with thorns growing out of it in the entire area around Okie Pinokie. The thorns are extremely sharp and look like they do not belong on this tree.

Switched to Curtis and Beth as per the suggestions for the board that a male/female team might have better results.
